HER ■ I've stared at her photo for a few hours trying to think of a powerful caption. I wanted to post something that would silence the madness and chaos surrounding Ava's feature on #yahoo ~ I couldn't think of anything. She just makes me smile. #happythoughts #mygirl #avaclarke #iamwhoiam #crownofcurls
ALBINISM AWARENESS DAY Albinism is an inherited genetic condition that determines the amount of melanin pigment formed in the skin, hair and/or eyes. Albinism occurs in all racial and ethnic groups throughout the world. In the U.S., approximately one in 18,000 to 20,000 people have some type of albinism. In other parts of the world, the occurrence can be as high as one in 3,000. Most children with albinism are born to parents who have normal hair and eye color for their ethnic backgrounds. There are different types of albinism. The amount of pigment in the eyes, hair and skin varies with each person. A common myth is that people with albinism have red eyes. Most people with albinism have blue eyes, hazel eyes or brown eyes. Lighting conditions can allow the blood vessels at the back of the eye to be seen, which can make the eyes look reddish or violet, but it's only the lights reflection on the blood vessels. People with albinism are affected by photophobia (look it up) and vision problems. #lessonfortheday #avaclarke #iamwhoiam #albinism #raiseawareness #albinismawareness #internationalalbinismawarenessday #albinismisbeautiful #inmyskiniwin @jaytayphotography
MAISIE BROWN ■ AVA CLARKE It's taken a few days for me to gather my thoughts (and emotions) about Ava's first pageant experience. Although Ava wasn't competing in the teen pageant….I was a nervous pageant mom! The crazy thing is, I wasn't worried about Ava's performance. I knew she would have fun and dance like nobody's watching. But each time they introduced Maisie Brown to the stage my breathing quickened, my heart skipped a beat, I got chills and my eyes watered! This was Maisie's first pageant competition. She did extremely well and made us proud! Ava was thrilled to stand by Maisie's side as a Top 10 Finalist! Although she didn't win, Maisie impressed every person in the Auditorium. Ava has never wanted to compete in pageants and she may never enter a competitive event in her life….but I'm thankful Maisie invited Ava to share this experience, simply because Ava loooved it! I was proud that she was willing to try something new. She met lots of talented, articulate, well rounded teens from all over Mississippi. I'm not sure if Maisie will compete again, but she certainly left her mark! No matter what, I can assure you, we will be there to support her. Greater things are in her future! Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.
