La déflagration a été provoquée en milieu d'après-midi par la rupture d'une conduite de vapeur sous pression dans un site industriel de la ville de Dangyang, signalent les autorités locales.
L'accident survient presque un an jour pour jour après la terrible explosion en août 2015 d'un entrepôt de produits chimiques dans le port de Tianjin (nord), qui avait ravagé le quartier alentour et tué au moins 165 personnes.
